Program Description: The Startup Visa allows foreign entrepreneurs to stay in Japan while preparing to start a business before meeting the standard requirements for the Business Manager residence status. Normally, entrepreneurs must secure an office and meet other requirements to obtain Business Manager status. Under the Startup Visa system, applicants can stay in Japan during the preparation period while receiving support from approved organizations.
Visa Duration: Foreign entrepreneurs can stay in Japan for up to two years under the Startup Visa while preparing to start a business.
Application Process: Applicants submit a business plan and other documents to a municipality or organization approved as a Foreign Entrepreneurship Promotion Organization. If the plan is approved and the Immigration Services Agency also approves the application, the applicant can obtain the Startup Visa.
Purpose of the Program: The Startup Visa program was introduced to support foreign entrepreneurs and promote startup creation and innovation in Japan.
Transition to Business Manager Status: During the Startup Visa period, entrepreneurs prepare to meet the requirements for the Business Manager status of residence used to operate a company in Japan.
